From understanding the type of vehicle used to knowing who to contact in case of concerns, these key questions will help you gather the information you need to make the best decisions for your child’s transportation experience. Here are 10 important questions to ask when your child is riding special education transportation.
What type of vehicle will my child be riding in? Is it a bus, van, or other specialized vehicle? Will it have any specific adaptations? What type of seatbelts, booster seats and car seats are provided if needed.
What is the route of the vehicle? Can you provide details on the pick-up and drop-off route? How long will my child be on the vehicle, and are there any other stops along the way?
What time will my child be picked up and dropped off? Can I get a clear schedule for both pick-up and drop-off times? How will I be informed if these times change?
Is there an app to track my child during the route? Is there any technology that allows me to track the vehicle’s location in real-time, such as a GPS app or other tools?
Does the transportation company monitor the vehicles via GPS? Are all vehicles equipped with GPS tracking, and do you actively monitor them to ensure safety and adherence to the route?
